Welcome to Newport Loyalty Days
Join with us April 30, May 1, 2 and 3, 2009 In celebrating the 53rd annual Newport Loyalty Day & Sea Fair Festival. This year we are please to announce the Veteran’s of Oregon organization will be honored as this year’s Grand Marshal in our annual patriotic parade scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, beginning at 12:00 p.m. This organization, headed by John Neuman and his group of dedicated veteran’s began an extraordinary vision with a single goal in mind. To reach and touch every single Oregon veteran, honoring the service and sacrifice they have made for our country through the Veterans’ of Oregon Honorable Service medal. What began as an Oregon vision has caught on and has now spread to over 37 States. For this we honor John Neuman and the Veterans of Oregon volunteer's. Loyalty Day was originated by the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) on the East Coast, with Newport’s Veteran’s starting our local Loyalty Day celebration in May of 1956. As the celebration continued to spread throughout the nation, Congress wrote a Joint Resolution and President Eisenhower signed the Bill into law designating the First of May as Loyalty Day, a special day set aside for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. With Newport’s strong support of the Loyalty Day tradition, it's designation as a Coast Guard City USA, it's world class Aquarium and Marine Science Center, lighthouses, galleries, restaurants, hotels and the Pacific Ocean, Newport offers fun for the entire family. |
