Loyalty Day - Come to the Parade

Welcome to Newport Loyalty Days
Welcome to Newport Loyalty Days

We invite you to join with us May 1st - 4th, 2008

in celebrating the 52nd annual Newport Loyalty Day & Sea Fair Festival. This year with our theme: Legacy of Liberty, we are honored many local WWII, Pearl Harbor and other highly decorated Veteran's will be serving as our Grand Marshal's during our festival and annual patriotic parade.

Loyalty Day was originated by the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) on the East Coast, with Newport’s Veteran’s starting our local Loyalty Day celebration in May of 1956. As the celebration continued to spread throughout the nation, Congress wrote a Joint Resolution and President Eisenhower signed the Bill into Law designating the First of May as Loyalty Day, a special day set aside for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. With Newport's strong support of the Loyalty Day tradition and its designation as a Coast Guard City USA, we invite you to share with us in this year's celebration.

Newport Loyalty Day’s festivities include the Queen’s Coronation, Vietnam Veteran’s remembrance with the annual Memorial Reading of the Names, Davis Show carnival, cars shows, the traditional hometown patriotic parade Saturday, May 3rd and various other activities hosted throughout the city.

The City of Newport continues to be a popular coastal destination. With its unique blend of nature, strong values, pride in past accomplishments, traditions and an eye always on the future. Join us Loyalty Day weekend and find out why so many visitor's are often overheard saying,“There’s something special about Newport.”
